Director, Printing Applications Laborato
The director will manage and direct activities of the Printing Applications Laboratory including oversight of all laboratory and staffing operations. The director will also oversee the Imaging Products Laboratory and be responsible to market and communicate the capabilities and services of these laboratories to the conventional and digital imaging industry, strengthen existing business, and develop new business. Major Roles and Responsibilities: • Manage PAL and IPL Operations, including full time staff, students, and equipment • Develop and implement plans to achieve operating budget targets to ensure self sufficiency and growth • Assess emerging technologies and implement new applied technologies and programs to enhance overall capabilities of the laboratories • Develop and ensure successful engagements with industry in support of RIT’s and the laboratories’ mission and operational goals • Attract and retain high performing team of technical and operational support staff to ensure continued support of applied research services, training and educational programs • Maintain and ensure safe operations of laboratory and printing equipment, as well as understand and comply with environmental regulations and issues (e.g. chemical disposal, HAZMAT handling, etc.) • Ability to develop subsequent year work plans and strategic planning capabilities • Supervision of several full time staff Outreach/Marketing • Develop and implement marketing strategy • Develop plans for utilization of the laboratories for education, contract applied research services, and training for industry • Develop marketing materials which may include promotional materials, website content, department annual report, etc. • Represent PAL and IPL at industry tradeshows, events, and focus group meetings • Establish and maintain relationships with industry, organizations/associations, and other important stakeholders Position Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in printing or imaging, or a related field is required, Masters degree preferred • Minimum ten years experience in integrated print manufacturing environment • Knowledge of extended print production technology and workflows • Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as public speaking skills • Ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently • Demonstrated experience in operations management • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong customer relationships • Financial management experience • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Ability to travel as needed
